JEMS encourages transparency in research by supporting open access to underlying data where appropriate and feasible, subject to legal, ethical, and commercial constraints.
Data Availability Statement
All empirical articles must include a Data Availability Statement indicating: (i) whether the data are available; (ii) where data can be accessed; and (iii) any restrictions and reasons.
Acceptable Statements
- "The data supporting the findings of this study are available in [repository] at [URL/DOI]."
- "The datasets are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request."
- "The data are not publicly available due to [ethical restrictions / commercial confidentiality / participant consent limitations]."
- "This study did not generate or analyse new empirical data."
Recommended Repositories
Authors are encouraged to deposit data in established open repositories such as Zenodo, Figshare, OSF, or field-specific repositories. Personal or sensitive data should be appropriately anonymised or access-controlled.
Data Integrity
Authors must retain original research data for a minimum of five years after publication and must be able to provide access upon reasonable request from the editor in the context of an integrity investigation.
